Discarded iron and steel drums are widely generated by manufacturing plants, chemical industries, lubricant suppliers, food processing facilities, and waste recycling companies. Once these containers reach the end of their service life, their large volume and rigid structure can make transportation and recycling inconvenient.
An iron drum shredder machine provides a practical way to reduce these bulky metal containers into smaller pieces before further recycling.By combining strong torque with heavy-duty cutting components, an industrial drum shredder can process used metal drums and prepare the material for subsequent sorting, baling, or metal recovery.
Why Recycle Iron Drums?
Metal drums contain valuable ferrous material that can be recovered and returned to the metal supply chain.
However, intact drums occupy considerable space. A truck filled with empty drums may carry a relatively low weight of recyclable metal because much of the available volume is occupied by the containers themselves.
The basic process starts with feeding the metal drums into the shredding chamber.
The rotating cutters engage the drum and apply high mechanical force. As the drum is pulled between the cutting components, its cylindrical structure is progressively torn and reduced.
A double-shaft configuration can be particularly useful for bulky metal containers because the counter-rotating shafts help grab the material and pull it into the cutting chamber.
The resulting metal pieces can then be conveyed to the next recycling stage.
Depending on the project, the following equipment may be installed after shredding:
Shredder → Conveyor → Magnetic Separator → Metal Sorting → Baler
